Everyone has at least one dream, but how many of those dreams do you really have the time and endurance to follow through with?
As a young girl growing up in a home filled with children (not just my three siblings but friends, cousins, second cousins, neighbours and neighbours' cousins ... you get the idea), I was enveloped in fun, adventure, friendships and imagination. Before the dawn of multi-channel TV, social media, Netflix and i-pads, all we did was play. We'd use anything we could get our hands on to fill the long summer days outdoors or the dark, drawn-out winter evenings cooped up inside. And I guess that this is where my passion for story-telling began.
I have, at many times, dreamed of writing down my stories, but life so easily takes over. School, exams, further education, part time jobs, a career in marketing and motherhood. How on earth do you find the time to follow your dreams?
Then, one Spring morning in 2018, I woke up and decided that I wasn't going to put it off any longer, and I began to write. I'd like to say that it was easy, but I quickly realised that my distant memories of English lessons were buried deep in my foggy past, so I enrolled on a refresher course and found myself knee deep in the intricacies of the English language. Grammar, punctuation, spelling, figurative speech ... eugh!
However, I persevered, and several months later I had completed my first novel. It may have taken me forty years but the moral of this story is; never give up on your dreams. If you have a burning desire to create or achieve something then, now more than ever, you can put yourself out there and make it happen.
And never stop dreaming - the best stories come from the craziest dreams!
